Readers and critics alike adore Cecelia Ahern for her lighthearted yet insightful stories about modern women and their often unusual situations. In If You Could See Me Now, she takes that theme a step further, offering us a heroine who is entirely believable, and the new man in her life who is, well, slightly less so.

Elizabeth Egan’s life runs on order: Both her home and her emotions are arranged just so, with little room for spontaneity. It’s how she counteracts the chaos of her family — an alcoholic mother who left when she was young, an emotionally distant father, and a free-spirited sister, who seems to be following in their mother’s footsteps, leaving her own six-yearold son, Luke, in Elizabeth’s care. When Ivan, Luke’s mysterious new grown-up friend, enters the picture, Elizabeth doesn’t know quite what to make of him. With his penchant for adventure and colorful take on things large and small, Ivan opens Elizabeth’s eyes to a whole new way of living. But is it for real? Is Ivan for real?

If You Could See Me Now is a love story with heart — and just a touch of magic. (From Goodreads)

My Thought:

I’m real. And I’m not going anywhere until you open those eyes properly and see me”

Elizabeth Egan, thirties years old woman, perfectionist, boring.. She didn’t have a happy life in her childhood. Her mother’s gone and never come back, her father’s never seen her. She’s similar to her mother, Graine, and it reminds him of her. Her sister, Saoirse, just like her mother, wild and wants to be free. Just like her mother, she abandoned Luke, her son.

Elizabeth never believed in hopes, wishes, dreams until Ivan came. At the beginning, she couldn’t see, sense him because he’s an imaginary friend to Luke. Ivan makes her laugh, do childish things. He makes her talks about her she has never talked to anyone instantly. The longer he spends time with her the more he falls for her. So does Elizabeth.

At some moments i was confused because i thought other people can see Ivan, too. The case of Elizabeth can see him is rare. Opal, his leader, said that when the time comes he should make the right decision. His feeling for Elizabeth has grown bigger and he decide to tell her. He thought he could be visible to the other people too after he confess it. But could he?

This book is full of inspirational, beautiful words. I also like the way Cecelia wrote the plot of this story. Well, this book is a good begining to read the other book she write. Here are some quotes i got from If You Could See Me Now, but maybe some of it are hard to be read. hehhe..
